Good Samaritan Thanksgiving Celebration

November 16, 2010 » 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Ryan Nece & Jermaine Phillips

On Tuesday, November 16, the Ryan Nece Foundation, in partnership with Sweetbay Supermarket and Metropolitan Ministries, as well as several current NFL players will be providing 400 Tampa Bay families with a hot meal and 1,200 boxes of necessary items.

Nece, along with current Buccaneers Andrew Economos, John Gilmore, Adam Hayward, Niko Koutouvides, Barrett Ruud, Ryan Sims and Micheal Spurlock have sponsored a semi-truck containing 400 boxes of non-perishable food items, 400 boxes of essentials, and 400 boxes of Avon products through Feed The Children, a non-profit relief organization that provides food and essentials to children and families in need. The distribution is the latest stop on Feed The Children’s Americans Feeding Americans Caravan which has helped more than 160,000 families across the country in cities that have been affected by the nation’s economic downturn.  Feed The Children hopes to reach at least 200,000 families by the end of 2010.

Families have been invited to the University Area Community Center to pick up their boxes, at which time they will be served a hot Thanksgiving meal thanks to partnerships with Sweetbay Supermarket and Metropolitan Ministries. Sweetbay is donating enough food and water for at least 700 people, while Chef Cliff Barsi at Metropolitan Ministries is leading the preparation and transportation of the food to the UACC for serving.

Nece, the NFL athletes and additional special guests Miss Florida Jaclyn Raulerson, and Scott Frost, former Buccaneer and current wide receivers coach for the #1 ranked University of Oregon Ducks are all scheduled to attend the celebration. Also, over 70 volunteers will be on hand to serve families and to distribute the boxes.

The Good Samaritan Thanksgiving Celebration is part of the Ryan Nece Foundation’s Good Samaritan Program, whose mission is to provide physical, financial and spiritual assistance for those in need around the Bay area.

The Ryan Nece Foundation wishes to thank all those who are supporting the Good Samaritan Thanksgiving Celebration, including Buccaneers Andrew Economos, John Gilmore, Adam Hayward, Niko Koutouvides, Barrett Ruud, Ryan Sims and Micheal Spurlock, as well as Miss Florida Jaclyn Raulerson, Scott Frost, Domino’s Pizza, USF Sigma Chi, and the many valued volunteers who will be present on Tuesday. THANK YOU!

Power of Giving raises $45,000 for youth

Ryan Nece launched the Power of Giving campaign on June 9, 2009 to encourage individuals to make a powerful impact on their community. Nece provided approximately 55 Tampa Bay leaders and philanthropists with $55 each and challenged them to use that money to have a positive effect on someone in need.

The Power of Giving was created out of Nece’s belief that we can’t rely on charities and non-profit organizations to make a difference in the community…it takes individuals as well. If we all want to see a more positive society, then we must each take advantage of the opportunities we have to do good. The smallest act of giving can have the largest impact in someone’s life. If not you, then who?
